Nobutaka Kawahara is a Professor and a Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery, Graduate School of Medicine, Yokohama City University, Yokohama, Japan. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1989. He had his Postgraduate Training Residency in neurosurgery, University of Tokyo, in 1982- 1988 and he was a Research Fellow, Stroke Branch, NINDS, NIH, USA, in 1992 –1994. He worked as an Assistant Professor, Saitama Medical School (1989- 1991), a Research Associate in neurosurgery, University of Tokyo (1994- 1999), an Assistant Professor in neurosurgery, University of Tokyo (1999- 2003), an Associate Professor in neurosurgery, University of Tokyo (2003-2008), and a Professor and Chairman in Neurosurgery, Yokohama City University (2008- present). His area of professional expertise focuses on neurosurgery (skull base surgery, cerebrovascular diseases, and brain tumor) and neuroscience (ischemic brain injury, and neuronal regeneration ). He is a Member in Japan Neurosurgical Society, Japanese Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Japan Society for CNS-Computed Imaging, Japan Stroke Society, Japanese Society on Surgery for Cerebral Stroke, and so on.
