Kiyoko Makimoto serves as a Chief of the Nursing Department and a Director of the Centre for International Programs at Osaka University, School of Allied Health Science. She has established the Japan Centre for Evidence Based Practice (Osaka University, Japan): An Affiliate Centre of the Joanna Briggs Institute in 2010 and became a Center Director. Dr. Makimoto started her working life as a Clinical Nurse in Osaka Japan. Then, she went to the USA where she completed her B.A. degree in cultural anthropology and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in epidemiology. Later, she moved to the Washington, DC to work at CSR, Inc. where she researched as Research Associate and had conducted research on drinking problems and drug abuse. Then, she worked for the University of Washington, Department of Health Services. Her research focused on health service utilization. After her return to Japan, she worked for Kanazawa university as a Professor for six years. Then, she moved to Osaka University holding a current position. She has chaired nine dissertation committees, and her students’ dissertation works have been published in international journals. Her area of specialty includes health care associated infection, dementia care, quality of life in orthopedic patients, and community health nursing.
