Zeynel Mungan

Zeynel Mungan earned his B.M. degree from the Medical Faculty of Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey. He completed his residency in internal medicine and also fellowship in gastroenterology at the same University. In 1988, he became an Associate Professor, and he was appointed to Professorship, in 1995. Between the years of 1990 and 1992, Dr. Mungan worked as a Research Associate Professor at the Tulane University, New Orleans, and has been awarded the Kemal Akdamar GI Research Fellowship. During this period, he worked mostly with GI peptides. He has more than 100 papers published in national and international journals and book chapters in Turkish gastroenterology textbooks. Prof. Dr. Mungan is a Member of the Turkish Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, and European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization. He served as the President of the Istanbul Branch of Turkish Gastroenterology Association between 1999 and 2007. His special interest areas are endoscopy, acid-peptic diseases, gastrointestinal motility, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Currently, he is the head of the Department of Gastroenterohepatology of Istanbul Medical Faculty since 2005.
