Farid Taheri

Farid Taheri is a Professor with a joint appointment at the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering and Materials Engineering Program at Dalhousie University, as well as being the Director of Ocean Research Engineering Centre-Atlantic. He has been a Registered Professional Engineer at Nova Scotia since 1986. He worked in industry as a Professional Engineer for eight years before joining the academia in 1994. He received his Ph.D. degree in engineering mechanics in 1988. While working in industry, he was directly responsible for solving specialized engineering problems with the aid of computational tools, as well as experimental mechanics. Taheri has over 130 publications in reputable refereed international journals and conference proceedings (91 in journals), and 35 other conference proceedings and federal government reports. He has made considerable contribution in training of highly qualified personnel. A total of 9 Ph.D. and 12 M.S. students have completed their works, and currently 5 Ph.D. and 4 M.S. students are receiving their training under his supervision. Dr. Taheri is in the Editorial Boards of four peer-reviewed international engineering journals, and is also a Reviewer of 18 international engineering journals. He is also one of the 4 cofounders of Dalhousie’s Institute for Research in Materials. Taheri has been invited by several industrial and learned societies as a Guest Lecturer. He has also been serving in several boards, most recently at the Executive Board of Nova Scotia Boat Builders Association.
