Juan E. Gonzalez received the B.S. degree in Microbiology and Public Health from the Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, USA, in 1985, and his Ph.D. degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of California, Los Angeles, CA, USA, in 1991. He has been an Associate Dean for graduate studies at the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX, USA, since November 2003; a Professor at the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Texas at Dallas, USA, since May 2006; an Associate Professor at the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Texas at Dallas, USA, from May 2002 to May 2006; and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Texas at Dallas, USA, from September 1996 to May 2002. Gonzalez has various memberships; he has been a Member of the National Science Foundation Review Panel—Metabolic Biochemistry from 2001 to 2006, a Member of the National Science Foundation Plant Biotic Interactions Review Panel from 2005 to 2007, and a Member of NIH Prokaryotic Cell & Molecular Biology Study Section from 2006 to 2011. His areas of interests include symbiosis, nitrogen fixation, exopolysaccharides, and quorum sensing.
