Rajiv Asthana received hid M.S. (1983) and B.S. (1980) degrees from the Indian Institutes of Technology, India, and Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wis, USA, in 1991. He has been a Professor since 2005. He was an Associate Professor (1999–2005) and an Assistant Professor (1995–1999), Department of Engineering and Technology, University of Wisconsin-Stout; a Faculty Guest Researcher, NASA Glenn Research Center (2004, 32 months); a Visiting Associate Professor, Visiting Scholar, and Visiting Assistant Professor, UW-Milwaukee (during 1996–2004); a Visiting Scientist, Foundry Research Institute, Krakow (2002); a Postdoctoral Research Associate (1991–1993), and a Project Scientist (1993) and an NRC Postdoctoral Research Associate (1993–1995), NASA Glenn Research Center. Moreover, he was a Chief Editor of the Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, a Coeditor of the Ceramic Integration and Joining Technology, and on the Editorial Boards of Ceramics International andBull Polish Academy of Sciences. In addition, he won the Eisenman Award, Howe Medal, Grossman Award, Stoughton Award, and ASM-IIM Lecture Award Committees. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Materials. His publications include five books and 160 refereed publications on brazing of ceramics, CMCs, UHTCs, high-temperature capillarity, liquid metal infiltration, and solidification, testing, and characterization of MMCs.
