Niels Olsen Saraiva Camara

Niels Olsen Saraiva Camara graduated in medicine at Federal University of Ceará (1991). He received an M.S. degree of medicine (nephrology) at the Federal University of São Paulo (1997), specializing in transplantation immunology at the Université de Tours (Diplôme des Etudes Appronfodies, France, 1997-1999) and the title of Doctor of Medicine (nephrology) at the Federal University of São Paulo in 2000. From 2000-2003, he performed a postdoc at Imperial College London and, later in 2006, became Affiliated Professor of nephrology at the Federal University of São Paulo. He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo (since 2005). Since January 2006, he serves as a Visiting Professor at the Université de Tours, France. He serves as the Head of Transplantation Immunobiology Laboratory at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences IV, USP. The laboratory has as main purpose to study the immunological factors that adversely affect the survival of patients receiving organ transplants. Within this context, the research team and collaborators study the immune-mediated mechanisms of renal diseases and new therapeutic approaches that may improve outcomes of these injuries.
