Janusz Gebicki received the B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry at the University of London in 1955 and 1959. Subsequently, he was Research Fellow at McMaster University, Canada (1959-1961), a US Public Health Fellow at the Washington University Medical School, St. Louis, Mo, USA (1961-1963), Associate Chemist at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY, USA (1963-1967), and Research Fellow at the John Curtin Medical School, Australian National University, Canberra (1967-70). Since 1970, he has been at the Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, currently as a Senior Research Fellow following his resignation from being an Associate Professor. His main interests are free radical biochemistry; oxidation of proteins and amino acids; antioxidants; antioxidant potential of biological materials; biological effects of radiation; oxidation of blood components by free radicals; atherosclerosis; oxidation of biological membranes; aging; action of protein peroxides on biomolecules, rate constants of reactions of protein radicals, and formation of peroxides in the sulfur amino acids. He was the Foundation President of the Society for Free Radical Research (Australasia) and Visiting Professor or Research Fellow in UK, USA, Japan, Poland, Austria, and New Zealand. He also served on many international and domestic conference organizing committees. Gebicki's record includes over 100 refereed publications, 1 book, 4 book chapters, and numerous conference presentations.
