Susan Costantini
0000-0002-3411-4079Susan Costantini was born in Naples province, Italy. In June 2000, she received a degree in chemistry from the University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy. In October 2004, she received a Ph.D. degree in computational biology in Second University of Naples, Naples, Italy, with Prof. Giovanni Colonna. In 2004, she served as a Professor of applied informatics for degree courses in Medicine and Surgery Faculty, SUN. In 2006, she worked as a Professor of Bioinformatics Laboratory in Biotechnology Faculty, University of Naples Federico II. Since March 2008, she serves as a Senior Fellow and Group Leader for the research project Immunoregulatory Network in Cancer Patients: The Hepatocellular Carcinoma as Model to Study Relationships between Chronic Inflammation and Cancer, at the INT Pascale, CROM, Mercogliano, with Prof. Giuseppe Castello. In her research activity Dr. Costantini applied and developed new computational methods in order to study the three-dimensional structure of proteins and the structure-function relation. In particular, she studied by computational methods and molecular dynamics simulations the structural properties of some proteins and the protein-protein or protein-DNA interactions by docking methods. She developed a method for the prediction of secondary structure of proteins, for the prediction of structural class of proteins, and for the evaluation of the globularity of protein three-dimensional models. She studied the protein folding problem by ab initio and topological approach. Also, she developed some web- ervices for analyzing the protein sequences and structures. Finally, she has also developed databases on cytokines and their receptor and a database to collect clinical and cytokinetic data. Dr. Costantini has published 62 scientific articles and 18 other publications.
