George B. Stefano
Dr. George B. Stefano is presently the Director of the Neuroscience Research Institute at Old Westbury. In this capacity, he has secured funding over the past 20 years from the National Science Foundation, National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute on Mental Health, and National Institute of Health Fogarty International Center. Additionally, he has recently been active in patenting various findings involved with opiate and estrogen receptors found on human tissue. Dr. Stefano has published over 375 peer-reviewed reports as well as organized both national and international meetings. In this regard, he is very active in training underrepresented minorities for research careers. He recently received the Doctor honoris causa degree from College of Health and Social Sciences, Clinical Medicine, St. Elisabeth University in Slovakia and the Bratislava Gold Medal of Science, 1st Medical School, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. He has appointments as an adjunct professor in the Departments of Surgery and Physiology at Stony Brook. He also currently serves as editor of Medical Science Monitor and has NIH Grants and patented and patent-pending technologies.
