Rosario Pignatello was born in 1963 in Avola, Siracusa, Italy. He gained an M.S. degree in pharmacy from the University of Catania, Catania, Italy, in 1985, after which he started working at the actual Department of Drug Pharmaceutical Sciences of the same university, where he is a Full Professor of pharmaceutical technology and legislation. Pignatello at present serves as the author of 120 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and about 130 congress communications. His main research interests range from controlled/targeted colloidal drug delivery systems (nanoparticles, liposomes, SLN, micelles, etc.) to lipophilic prodrugs/bioconjugates (drug-lipoamino acid conjugates), to new biopolymers characterization and biomedical applications, and to calorimetry techniques (DSC, LB) for studying drug/biomembrane interactions. He has recently served as an Editor at Woodhead Publishing Ltd., Cambridge, UK. Pignatello is a Member of the Scientific Committee of the TEFARCO Innova Interuniversity Research Consortium, Parma, Italy. He assists the European Commission as an Independent Expert for the evaluation of research projects (7th Framework Programs, Horizon 2020).
