Ritter joined the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the University of Mainz in February 1998 1986 In 1986 he was teaching "Polymer Chemistry" at the University of Bayreuth. 1982–1997 In 1982 he joined the University of Wuppertal where he received his habilitation in Organic Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry in 1989. 1976–1981 In 1976 Prof. Ritter moved to Bayer AG in Krefeld-Uerdingen and worked in the Central Research & Development Department on pigment modification with polymers, wood protection with oligomeric fungicides and new materials for membrane technology. 1975 Doctoral degree received in 1975 from the University of Mainz where he worked with Prof. Ringsdorf on "Synthesis of polymeric drugs". 1967–1972 Prof. Ritter obtained a Diplom-Chemiker degree at the University Marburg in 1972
