Fiorina Giona was born in September 1955. She served as an Assistant professor of Haematology, “Sapienza” University of Rome. Her occupational fields are among hematologist, clinical activity in pediatric haematology, and internal medicine. She worked as a course coordinator on degree in dental hygiene, “Sapienza” at the University of Rome, Course of Scienze Interdisciplinari Cliniche; course coordinator on nursing degree, “Sapienza” at the University of Rome, Course of Medicina Clinica e Farmacologia; master coordinator on master degree in pediatric hematology, “Sapienza” University of Rome. She serevs as a doctor in charge of the regional reference centre for two rare diseases: Gaucher‘s disease and chronic histiocytosis—histiocytosis X, haematology, policlinico Umberto I, “Sapienza” University of Rome. Her ares of interest are among (1) chronic myeloid leukaemia in children (clinical management and molecular monitoring); (2) myeloproliferative disorders (thrombocythemia, polycythemia) in children; (3) idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in children (clinical management and long term followup); (4) acute lymphoblastic leukemia; (5) congenital and acquired hemolytic anemia (clinical management) in children; (6) rare diseases, particularly Gaucher disease and Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis in children and adults (clinical management, investigational trials, and molecular investigation). She also serves as a principal investigator or coinvestigator, over the years, in national and international clinical trials for patients with hematological malignancies and for those with Gaucher disease, a Member of the American Society of Haematoology (ASH), a Member of the European Haematology Association (EHA), and a Member of the AIEOP cooperative group (Associazione Italiana di Ematologia ed Oncologia Pediatrica).
