Tigran Armenakovich Vartanyan

Tigran Armenakovich Vartanyan was born in Leningrad, USSR, in 1953. He received his M.S. degree (cum laude) in physics from the Leningrad State University in 1976 and his Ph.D. degree and the scientific title of Senior Research Scientist from the Supreme Certifying Commission attached to the Council of Ministers of the USSR, Moscow, in 1980 and 1990, respectively. He obtained a scientific degree of Dr. Sc. from the Supreme Certifying Commission of Russian Federation in 2004. He jointed Vavilov State Optical Institute in 1976 and was working there till 2005 growing from junior researcher to leading research scientist to head of laboratory. Since 2006, he works as a Professor and a Head of Laboratory of Surface Photophysics at the St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics. He held also numerous visiting positions in the universities of Germany (Kassel, Bonn), France (Paris), and USA (SUNY Buffalo and NMSU Las Cruces). He was the recipient of the Stipendium for distinguished Russian scientists, numerous research grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, DAAD (Germany), and NSF (USA). In 2010, he organized a Workshop titled Photophysics of Nanoscale Systems attended by the key players of the field from UK, Germany, Israel, and Russia. His current research interests are in the field of photoinduced surface processes, nanoplasmonics, and nanotechnology.
