Jose Valdivielso works as a Research Scientist at the Spanish Ministry of Health at the Nephrology Research Laboratory IRBLLEIDA, Hospital Universitario Arnau de Vilanova, Lerida, Spain, where he was appointed in January 2004. He graduated in biology in 1994, gained his M.S. degree in renal physiology in 1995 and his Doctorate degree in biology in 1998 from the University of Salamanca, Salamanca, Spain. He was a Research Fellow at the Instituto Reina Sofía de Investigación Nefrológica from July 1993 to August 1998. He held Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture, and Emory University, Atlanta, Ga, USA, from September 1998 to July 2000, and then at the University of California San Diego, Calif, USA, from August 2000 to March 2002. Dr Valdivielso has published widely in the field of nephrology, and his current research interests lie in the area of vitamin D receptor activation and vascular smooth muscle cells.
