Yongli Gao

Yongli Gao works at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY, USA. In 1981, he received his B.S. degree in physics from the Central-South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (now renamed Central-South University of Technology), Changsha, Hunan, China. In 1986, he gained a Ph.D. degree in physics from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind, USA. Between 1988–1994, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester; 1994–1999, an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester; since 1999, a Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester. He earned in 1999 a Visiting Scientist Fellowship, Ministry of Education, Japan, in 2006, a Visiting Professorship, Japanese Society for Progress of Science, and in 2007, a Bridging Fellowship, University of Rochester. His main area of expertise is experimental surface physics; physical phenomena of solid surfaces and of research interfaces by examining the electronic and structural properties; electronic interactions and morphology of interfaces and interface formation; structural and spectroscopic properties of nanostructures; transient behavior of charge transfer across interfaces. Gao is a Member at the American Physical Society, American Vacuum Society, and Materials Research Society.
