Abhijit Gupta is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northern Illinois University (NIU), DeKalb, Ill, USA. He is also the Director of Graduate Studies of the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Director of the Vibration Laboratory of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. He received his M.S. degree in engineering mechanics from Michigan Technological University, Mich, USA, in 1982 and his Ph.D. degree in engineering mechanics from Penn State in 1986 and has been teaching at NIU since that time. He has received grants from Argonne National Laboratory, Commonwealth Research Corporation, Motorola, Senior Flexonics, Elgin Sweeper, Biomerix Corporation, and many others. His research interests include fatigue failure under random vibration and accelerated testing, dynamic modulus of viscoelastic materials, finite-element model updating, as well as active and passive Vibration Control. He has coauthored a book on finite elements and has published in various journals and proceedings including the Journal of Sound and Vibration, Computers and Structures, Nuclear Engineering and Design, Journal of Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology, International Journal of Mechanics and Materials in Design, Noise Control Engineering Journal, International Journal of Analytical and Experimental Modal Analysis, Journal of Vibroengineering, Journal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, International Journal of Vibration and Control, and Journal of Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing.
