Tobias Back is the Director of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Intensive Care at the Saxon Hospital Arnsdorf/Dresden, Germany. Back is a Professor of neurology at the Technical University Dresden School of Medicine. Back was born on May 11th, 1962 in Erbach/Odenwald, West Germany. Back graduated from the University of Heidelberg School of Medicine, degree as M.D. (magna cum laude). Back educated as a clinical neurologist at Munich University Hospitals (Klinikum Grosshadern). From 2000 to 2004, Back elected as a Professor of neurology at the Philipps-University Marburg and from 2004 to 2006, a Professor of neurology and the Vice Director of the Department of Neurology, Klinikum Mannheim, University of Heidelberg. Research activities included projects of the Sonderforschungsbereich 507 "Significance of non-neuronal cells in neurological disorders," the Clinical Research Group "New methods of non-invasive monitoring of brain function" at Charité Berlin, and the National Genome Research Network 2, "Obesity candidate genes in stroke patients." Back earned various grants by the German Research Council. Neuroscientific interests focus on stroke medicine, modern MR imaging, and health economy. Back published more than 50 original research articles and 1 book. Back obtained, in 1998, the Stroke Award of the German Society of Neurology and in 2000, the Scientific Award of the European Neurological Society. Back is a Member of the Editorial Board of "BMC Neurology" 2004-2008.
