Rolando Del Maestro

Rolando Del Maestro received his MD degree from the University of Western Ontario, ON, Canada, in 1973. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Uppsala, Sweden, in 1979. These studies outlined the mechanisms of free radical injury in the microvascular system. Dr. Del Maestro made significant contributions in London, Ontario, to the area of brain tumour research as Director of the Brain Research Laboratories at the University of Western Ontario from 1981 to 2000. In 2000 Dr. Del Maestro was recruited to the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Dr. Del Maestro was formerly the Director of the Brain Tumour Research Centre at the Montreal Neurological Institute. His research is focused in the area of tumour invasion and he has written numerous papers and book chapters related to his research. He holds the William Feindel Chair in Neuro-Oncology. He is a part-time Professor at McGill University in the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurology. In 2006 he was awarded the First McGill Neurosurgical Teaching Award.
