Giacomo Faldella was born in Bologna, March 17,1950. He graduated at the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Bologna in, Rimini, Italy, in 1975. He obtained a Diploma in pediatric clinic in 1978 and in puericulture in 1983 (cum laude). He currently works as a Director of the Neonatology Unit, University of Bologna, since 2003; a Director of the Unit of Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care of the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna since 2003; a Director of the Interdepartmental Research Center on Human Nutrition of the University of Bologna since 2005; a Director of the Residency School in Pediatrics of the University of Bologna since 2006; a Director of the Department of Gynecologic, Obstetric and Pediatric Sciences, University of Bologna, since 2010. Prof. Faldella also served as an Assistant in Pediatrics from May 1979 to 1987; a Consultant in Pediatrics from November 1987 to November 1994; an Associate Professor at the Clinical Institute of Preventive Neonatology and Pediatrics; a Full Professor of Neonatology, School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Bologna, from 2005 to 2008; a Director of the Clinical Institute of Preventive Pediatrics and Neonatology of the University of Bologna from 2005 to 2008. His major research interests are focused on infancy nutrition, infectious diseases and vaccines, and physiopathology of preterm birth. He has participated in or coordinated several clinical studies, mainly on vaccines. He is the author/coauthor of more than 300 publications in international and Italian journals. Prof. Faldella is also a member of several national scientific societies and editor of two national scientific journals. For the project Efficacy and Safety of Continuous Infusion of Fentanyl for Pain Control in Preterm Newborns on Mechanical Ventilation, he has received an AIFA grant of 200.000 euros.
