Tian Huang

Tian Huang received his B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Tianjin University, China, in 1981, 1984, and 1990 all in mechanical engineering. He was appointed in 1985 by the same University where he is currently a Full Professor and the Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a Visiting Fellow in Purdue University (USA) from 1985 to 1986 and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Warwick (UK) from 1995 to 1996, where he has hosted a formal part-time professorship since 2000. He is also a Guest Professor at Tsinghua University and Dalian University of Science and Technology. Professor Huang is an international recognized expert in the field of robotics and automation. His research interests cover kinematics, dynamics, and control of machine tool and robots. He has published more than 100 technical papers, out of which over 50 appeared in prestigious journals and refereed conferences at an international level. He received 7 awards conferred by the State Education Ministry of China and other government bodies. He has been selected as the 1000 Outstanding Young Scientists in 1998 by the State Personnel Ministry of China and as the Yangtze Professor in 2000 by the State Education Ministry of China. He has rendered his service as a Reviewer for IEEE TRO, ASME JMD, ASME MANU, MMT, ICRA, and IROS. He was appointed as a chair and/or session chair of a couple of domestic and international conferences such as the 11th IFToMM World Congress. Professor Huang is a Corresponding Member of CIRP, the past Vice President of IFToMM and a Member of the British Engineering Professors’ Council in addition to his important roles in a number of professional societies in China.
