Federico Moriconi graduated in medicine and surgery in 2004 at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome (Italy) after performing an experimental thesis at the University Hospital of Göttingen (Germany). From 2004 to 2014 Moriconi worked at the Department of Gastroenterology and Endocrinology at the University of Göttingen where he achieved speciality in internal medicine and gastroenterology. At the same time he was part of a research group which made significant contributions in understanding the mechanism involved in the recruitment of inflammatory cells, e.g. neutrophils and mononuclear phagocytes, during acute liver damage in different animal models. In 2014 he moved to the University Hospital of Basel (Switzerland) where he reached the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Since 2016 Moriconi works at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Triemli Hospital in Zurich (Switzerland). His main areas of interest are liver diseases, especially liver cirrhosis and its complications as well as Hepatitis C, but also interventional endoscopy.
