Tokifumi Majima obtained the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, magna cum laude, in 1984 and 1994, respectively, both from Hokkaido University School of Medicine, Sapporo, Japan. He served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Hokkaido University School of Medicine, and as an Associate Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Hokkaido University School of Medicine. Currently, he works as a Professor and Chairman at the Department of Joint Replacement and Tissue Engineering, Hokkaido University School of Medicine. Majima was honored by the following awards: Excellence in Research Award (American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, 1993), Scientific Award (Hokkaido Orthopedic and Traumatologic Society, 1994), Excellence in Paper Award (Japan Knee Society, 2002), Society encouragement Award (Japanese Society for Clinical Biomechanics, 2005), Best Paper Award (Japanese Society of Rheumatism and Joint Surgery, 2006). Majima is a Member of the following bodies: Japanese Orthopedic Association (Councilor), Japanese Arthroscopic Association (Councilor), Japanese Orthopedic Society of Biomechanics (Councilor), Japan Knee Society (Councilor), Japanese Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, Japanese Society for Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation (Councilor), Orthopedic Research Society (USA), Japan College of Rheumatology, Asia Pacific Knee Symposium (Faculty Member), Editorial Board of Sports Health Journal (American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine), Asia-Pacific Arthroplasty Society (International Faculty Member), and Editorial Board of Journal of Orthopedic Science .
