Peter Kranke is a Consultant Anesthesiologist and a Clinical Lecturer in anesthesiology and economics in healthcare/evidence-based medicine at the Department of Anesthesiology, University Hospitals of Würzburg and the Würzburg Medical School. After receiving a Medical degree from the University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany, Dr. Kranke trained at the Department of Anesthesiology, University Hospitals of Würzburg. During his residency, he completed an M.B.A. degree from the University of Würzburg in cooperation with Boston University and Florida Gulf Coast University. Following his Ph.D. degree thesis on the management of postoperative nausea and vomiting, he became responsible for clinical research, and is currently a Section Head for clinical research at the Department of Anesthesiology. As a Consultant, Dr. Kranke is responsible for the anesthesia service at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His current interests include ambulatory anesthesia, fast-track recovery, postoperative nausea and vomiting, patient satisfaction and involvement, evidence-based perioperative medicine, and outcomes research in perioperative medicine as well as health economics and quality assurance. Moreover, Kranke has published over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and numerous review articles and invited monographs. He serves on the editorial board of journals focussing on anesthesia, perioperative medicine, and clinical research. Dr. Kranke is also a member of many national and international professional societies, and is a Member of the Subcommittee No.1 within the European Society of Anesthesiology that has a special focus on evidence-based medicine and quality assurance.
