Zhifei Shi received his Ph.D. degree in mechanics in 1992 from Harbin Engineering University, Harbin, China. Before he joined the School in 1994, he worked at Harbin Institute of Technology as a Postdoctoral Fellow (1992–1994). Besides, he worked as a Research Associate at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University during 1997-1998. He also worked as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (June 2005–December 2005) and at University of Houston (May 2009–November 2009), respectively. His research interests include smart materials and structures (with piezoelectric actuators/sensors), earthquake engineering, structural analysis, functionally graded or laminated composite, fracture and fatigue of engineering materials, variational principles, and numerical method.
