Rob Martinus Van Dam
Rob Martinus Van Dam was trained at Wageningen University (M.S. degree in nutrition science with distinction, in 1998) and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment / VU University Amsterdam (Ph.D. degree in epidemiology, in 2003), The Netherlands. After having been a faculty member of the Institute of Health Sciences, VU University Amsterdam (2002–2005) and the Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health (2005–2009) where he still has an adjunct appointment, he joined the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health and Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, as an Associate Professor. Dr. van Dam conducts research into the lifestyle determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. His research is based on large-scale cohort studies, dietary intervention studies, and meta-analyses. Current research concerns the integration of data on dietary, biochemical, and genetic characteristics to study the etiology of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. He is also interested in the links between behavioral determinants, dietary habits, and the development of obesity.
