Zeger Debyser

Zeger Debyser, M.D., obtained his Ph.D. degree for research at the Rega Institute (KU Leuven, 1994). Between 1990 and 1994, he was an FWO Fellow. In 1992-1993, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Harvard Medical School. He was also trained as a Clinical Virologist (UZ Leuven, 1997). Between 1998 and 2003, he was a Postdoctoral FWO Fellow for research on HIV integration. Since 2009, he serves as a Full Professor at KU Leuven Campus Kortrijk, and he lectures biochemistry, metabolism, virology, and gene therapy. He heads the Division of Molecular Medicine at the KU Leuven. He published around 150 papers in international journals and is an Inventor with 6 patents. Since 2010, he is a Member of the VRWI. His scientific expertise focuses on the molecular virology of HIV, drug development, and gene therapy.
