Daniel Bia was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1975. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biological sciences (physiology) from the United Nations Program for the Development of Basic Sciences (PEDECIBA Program), Republic University, Montevideo, Uruguay, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. He currently works as a Researcher and an Associate Professor in the Physiological Department, School of Medicine, Republic University. Dr. Bia also serves as a Visiting Professor at Favaloro University, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a Researcher (grade 4) of PEDECIBA and level 1 of the National Agency of Research and Innovation (ANII). His current research interests include vascular physiology and pathology, cardiovascular biomechanics, vascular grafts, tissue rheology, and atherosclerosis. Dr. Bia is a Codirector and CEO (Manager Director) of CUiiDARTE center and project. He was a recipient of the Dr. Roberto-Caldeyro Barcia Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Uruguay) in 2007 and 2009, and the Dr. Elio-Carcia Austt Best Ph.D. Thesis in 2009 (PEDECIBA, Republic University). He has authored or coauthored over 80 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
