Leo B. Twiggs holds M.D. degree. He serves as a Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Professor at the Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and a Clinical Service Chief at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Twiggs is a nationally recognized leader in gynecologic oncology and is known for his powerful advocacy for women’s health rights. His clinical research productivity has benefited women both nationally and internationally. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1972 and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles Medical Center. He is a highly skilled clinician in the field of gynecologic oncology, with a particular research emphasis on cervical cancer. He believes in a multidisciplinary approach to women’s health that emphasizes improvements in clinical care with acquisition of new knowledge. As a board certified gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Twiggs’ interests in organizational change and the subsequent impact on the quality of healthcare are in tandem with his dedication to the clinical care of cancer patients. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles on the clinical care of cervical carcinoma and the use of vaccination for prevention of cervical cancer.
