Canan Varlikli is an Associate Professor of organic chemistry at the Solar Energy Institute, Ege University. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, Turkey, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. She has been awarded with NATO A2 scholarship and completed some part of her Ph.D. thesis at Professor Dr. C.S. Foote’s laboratories at the University of California at Los Angeles, Calif, USA (2001-2002) and obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2003 from the Chemistry Department of Ege University, Izmir, Turkey. She held short postdoctoral research at the Electronic Materials Section, Imperial Collage London, UK (2005) and the Engineering Science Department, University of Patras, Patras, Greece (2007). Her research interests comprise new materials for light absorption and emission and amplification, dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical solar cells, organic light-emitting diodes, photophysical studies of aromatic molecules and semiconductors, and heterogeneous photocatalysis and adsorption for water purification. She is a Member of the European Photochemistry Association, Asian Photochemistry Association, and National Photovoltaic Technology Platform. She has more than 50 scientific presentations including manuscripts and national and international congress proceedings and 1 patent.
