Giuseppina M. Carbone
Giuseppina M. Carbone obtained her M.D. degree (summa cum laude) in 1983 and completed her clinical residency in 1987 at the University of Naples Medical School, Naples, Italy. In 1988, she moved to the USA and trained in basic research at the Wake Forest University Medical Center (Winston-Salem, NC, USA) in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. From 1994, she was a Senior Fellow at the Hollings Cancer Center in the Department of Experimental Oncology of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, USA. In 2001, she was appointed as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In July 2003, she joined the Laboratory of Experimental Oncology at the IOSI in Bellinzona as a Senior Investigator and she is currently the Leader of the Prostate Cancer Biology Group. Carbone interest focuses on the role of ETS transcription factors in prostate cancer. Her laboratory has recently identified novel ETS alterations in prostate tumors and a link between altered ETS expression and epigenetic gene silencing mechanisms in prostate tumors.
