Yusuf Akhter was born in India, June 7, 1979. He works as an Assistant Professor at the School of Life Sciences, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, India. He has obtained his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, 2010, from the University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. During the Ph.D. program, he carried out his research at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Hamburg, Germany; at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), India; and in the laboratories of Biochemistry and Structural biology supervised by Professor Seyed E Hasnain (CDFD, India) and Dr. Matthias Wilamanns (EMBL, Germany) (2004–2009). He was awarded a DAAD Fellowship for his doctoral studies and later on an EMBO Fellowship for his Postdoctoral research at EMBL, Hamburg. He is a Member of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), and German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) and acts as a Reviewer for several international journals, such as PLOS journals. He was also a Visiting Lecturer at Universiti Technology Malaysia. He worked on several drug target proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Over the last few years, his research focused on studying novel drug targets from Mtb. His main area of research includes transcription and posttranslational modifications.
