Peter Dovc is a Full Professor of genetics and animal biotechnology at the Department of Animal Science, University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia. He graduated from the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, in 1981, and received his Ph.D. degree from Technische Universität München, Munich, Germany, in 1988. After postdoctoral training at Justus Liebig Universität, Giessen and Ludwig Maximilian Universität, München, he joined the Gendiagnosezentrum München. In the academic year 1994/1995, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Animal Science, University of California, Davis, Calif, USA. Since 1995, he is teaching genetics, animal breeding, animal biotechnology, and molecular biology at the University of Ljubljana. His main research interests are regulation of gene expression in the mammary gland, identification of candidate genes for growth and fat distribution, antigene variation in avian mycoplasmas, and conservation genetics. From 1996 to 2000, he was the President of the Genetic Society of Slovenia. Currently, he is a Member of the Agribiotechnology Board of the European Biotechnology Federation, an Editor at Acta Agriculturae Slovenica, and the President of the Research Council at the Slovenian Research Agency.
