Xianming Chen received the B.S. degree in plant protection from the Northwest University of Agriculture, Yangling, Shaanxi, China, in 1982. Chen received the M.S. degree in plant pathology, in 1987, and the Ph.D. degree in plant pathology, in 1991, from the Washington State University, Pullman, WA, USA. From 1982 to 1985, Chen served as a teacher and Researcher at the Northwest University of Agriculture, Yangling, Shaanxi, China. From 1985 to 1991, Chen served as a Research Assistant at the Washington State University, Pullman, WA, USA. From 1991 to 1997, Chen served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Washington State University. From 1997 to 2000, Chen served as a Postdoctoral Research Geneticist (plant) at the USDA-ARS, Pullman, WA, USA. Since 2000, Chen has been working as a Research Plant Pathologist at the USDA-ARS and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Plant Pathology, WSU. Chen has been a Member of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) since 1992, the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 2000, the International Plant Pathology Society since 2002, the Crop Science Society of America since 2005, and the Chinese Plant Pathology Society since 2009. He served as an Associate Editor of Phytopathology from 2005 to 2007, a Senior Editor of Plant Disease from 2007 to 2009, and an Editor-in-Chief of Crop Protection from 2010 to 2013. Chen has been an Editorial Board Member of the Crop Protection since 2013, the Open Journal of Genomics since 2011, the Journal of Plant Science and Molecular Breeding since 2011, and the Journal of Plants since 2013.
