Daolun Chen

Daolun Chen is a Professor and Ryerson Research Chair at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, Canada. He received his B.S. degree in 1983, his M.S. degree in 1986 in materials science and engineering from Northeastern University, Shenyang, China, his Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering from Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1989, and his second doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in chemistry from the University of Vienna, Austria, 1993. Chen's research interests include advanced materials (bio- and nanomaterials and composites) and critical engineering materials and their mechanical properties, fatigue, and fracture. Chen, a recipient of Premier's Research Excellence Award, Ryerson Inaugural Faculty SRC Award, and Ryerson FEAS Research Excellence Award, has authored or coauthored over 170 refereed publications, including 117 refereed journal papers, 58 refereed conference papers, plus 48 nonrefereed papers/abstracts in conference proceedings and 47 research reports. Chen's research results have been cited 665 times by other researchers, including those cited in 30 overview papers, 23 books or book chapters, and 3 handbooks or sourcebooks. He is currently an Associate Editor or a member of editorial boards of 11 journals, a Member of Review Panel of Early Researcher Award, Ministry of Research and Innovation, a Member of Board of Canadian Fracture Research Corporation, a reviewer of research proposals for 9 granting agencies, and a reviewer of journal papers for 32 international journals.
