Luis M. Blanco-Colio holds a B.S. degree in biology (1996) and a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry (2001) from Autonoma University. Currently, he is an Associate Researcher of Vascular Research Lab at IIS-Fundacion Jimenez Diaz, Madrid, Spain. He has published more than 90 papers in specialized cardiovascular journals (including Circulation, Circulation Research, Journal American College of Cardiology and Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology) and filed 1 patent. Professor Blanco-Colio has received different awards including Young Investigator Award in Basic Science by the European Society of Cardiology (2002). Research interests include the role of TNF superfamily members in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. In particular, he has focused on elucidating the biological properties of TWEAK, a protein that generally function as an apoptotic factor, immune system regulator or proinflammatory cytokine. He is also actively working in the search for novel cardiovascular biomarkers.
