Michelle Wykes (BSc Hons, PhD) is an immunologist who heads the Molecular Immunology Research Program at the QIMR. She is currently a Queensland Government Smart Futures Fellow. Michelle is a graduate of the University of Western Australia with post-doctoral training at The Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London and Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford. After over 6 years in the UK working on Dendritic cells and B cells, Michelle returned to Australia to study the immunology of infectious diseases. She has for several years worked on immune responses against malaria and recently published seminal research which showed that the malarial parasite could survive in dendritic cells which has profound implication for immunity against malaria.
