Joao Canario has a degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. degree in environmental chemistry. Since 2008, he has been a Researcher at IPMA and presently at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal. He is also an Invited Professor at the University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, and the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Canário main research interests are in the speciation, fate, and biogeochemistry of contaminants in the aquatic environment. He has done research in Portuguese, Indian, Spanish, and Canadian coastal areas as well as in fresh water systems. In the last four years, Dr. Canário has been working in Canadian Arctic, and he is now involved in a Portuguese campaign in Antarctica.
