Ignacio López Goñi
Ignacio López Goñi works as a Professor of microbiology at the Medical School of the University of Navarra Pamplona, Spain. He obtained the Biology and the Ph.D. degrees (with honors) from the University of Navarra, in 1985 and 1989, respectively. From 1990 to 1992, Goñi was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology in the University of Berkeley, Berkeley, Calif, USA and the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology in the University of Columbia, Columbia, Mo, USA. Presently, he is the Dean of the School of Science of the University of Navarra. He has more than 20 years of experience working on animal and human brucellosis with emphasis on the genetic and phenotypic characterization of virulence factors in Brucella, the construction of new life vaccines against brucellosis, and the development of new molecular techniques for diagnosis and typing of Brucella. In 2003, he was the President of the International Society for Brucellosis and the President of the Brucellosis 2003 International Research Conference. He is a coeditor of the book Brucella: Molecular and Cellular Biology. In 2010, he was the coordinator of the Spanish network of genomic human microbial pathogens.
