De-An Guo received the Ph.D. degree of pharmacognosy from Beijing Medical University in 1990. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Texas Tech University, USA, from 1993 to 1996. Currently, he serves at Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica as a Chair Professor and as the Director of National Engineering Laboratory for TCM Standardization. He acts as the Director of Shanghai Research Center for TCM Modernization. His principal social concurrent posts include becoming an Expert Committee Member of Chinese Pharmacopeia (2005 and 2010 Editions), an Expert Committee Member of United States Pharmacopeia, an Associate editor of Journal of Ethnopharmacology and Frontiers in Ethnopharmacology, an Editorial Board Member of over 10 international journals in the field of herbal medicine. He received the First-Grade Natural Science Award from Ministry of Education in 2005 and 2007. He has published over 430 papers, among which 270 papers were published in SCI-cited journals with over 3000 citations. His Hirsh index reaches 27 in 2011. He has supervised over 45 Ph.D. students.
