Alessandro Grasso was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1958. He received the degree in medicine and surgery (summa cum laude) from the University of Genoa, Italy, in 1984. He obtained the postgraduate specialty in gastroenterology and internal medicine in 1988 and 2001, respectively. Since 1988, he has been at Internal Medicine Department in Savona, Italy. In 1999, he was a Research Fellow at Liver Transplant and Hepato-Biliary Unit, Royal Free Hospital in London, UK. Since 2003 he has been Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Section of the Department of Internal Medicine in San Paolo Hospital, Savona, Italy. From 2001 to 2004, he was National Study Coordinator for Gastroenterology Section of the Italian Federation of Hospital Internists. From 2007 to 2009, he was an Associate Editor of Italian Journal of Internal Medicine. He is now a Member of Editorial Board of World Journal Of Hepatology and a Contributing Associate Editors-in-Chief of World Journal of Gastroenterology (WJG). Grasso is an author or coauthor of 148 publications among which are 32 full paper and 65 abstracts published in international journals with impact factor. He is mainly interested in hepatology. His areas of scientific interest cover the treatment and the prognostic factors of response to treatment of chronic hepatitis C, treatment of hepatitis B and hepatocellular carcinoma.
