Jan Åke Jönsson

Jan Åke Jönsson was born in 1948 in Sweden. He studied at Lund University and completed his Ph.D. degree in 1978. Since then he has been active at the same university and was promoted to a Professor in 2000. He is currently the Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry. He has taught most aspects of analytical chemistry and also of environmental science. During short time periods, he was also teaching at the University of Botswana and the University of Vilnius. He has been a Supervisor (main and assistant) for more than 30 Ph.D. students, and is currently a Study Director for graduate studies in environmental science. His main research interests during recent years are in the development and application of membrane extraction as sample preparation and sampling techniques, combined with gas and liquid chromatography. He published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, and has research cooperation projects and contacts with many scientists over a large number of countries, including China, Ethiopia, Botswana, and South Africa, as well as neighbor countries such as Denmark, Norway, and Poland. He was a Titular Member of IUPAC Analytical Chemistry Division during 2004–2007.
