Centre for Electrochemical Technologies, Spain
José A. Pomposo was born in San Sebastián, Spain, in 1965. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1994 at the Basque Country University (BCU) working with Professor M. Cortazar. He was awarded Best Thesis of the BCU in Materials Science, 1995. He preformed a postdoctoral stay at SAIOLAN, S. L. including a training master course in managing start-up companies. Since 1997 he is at CIDETEC-Centre for Electrochemical Technologies, where he serves as the New Materials Department Head. He has been involved in more than 100 R&D projects (including 5 European Union Founded projects), authored and coauthored more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 1 chapter in the Encyclopedia of Sensors (edited by Craig Grimes), and several international patents in conducting polymers, all-plastic electrochromic devices and plasmid purification systems. His main research interest covers the study of new nanoscale phenomena (including the bio-nano-interface), synthesis, modelling, and characterization of hybrid multifunctional materials, and development of improved electrochemical, optoelectronic, and micro/nanoelectronic devices. He is a professional member of the Institute of Nanotechnology, UK, since 2002, and has participated in the launching of Genesis network, the Spanish mirror of the Nanoelectronics (ENIAC) and Smart System Integration (EPOSS) European Plataforms. He was consulted during the elaboration of the White Paper on Nanotechnology edited on 2002 by 3i, the Economist Inteligence Unit, and the Institute of Nanotechnology.
