Venkataraman Jayaraman received the B.S. degree in chemistry at University of Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India (1983–1986), M.S. degree in chemistry at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai Tamil Nadu, India (1986–1988), and the Ph.D. degree at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, with thesis “Preparation of M-b-aluminas (M = Li, Na, K, Rb or H+) by soft chemistry methods and their characterisation” (1994–1999). Jayaraman is a Scientific Officer at Chemistry Group, IGCAR, Kalpakkam, and Head of Novel Chemical Sensors Section. Jayaraman’s major areas of specialization include synthesis of compounds by novel soft-chemistry based methods, development of electrochemical and surface conductivity based chemical sensors for various applications in DAE, and understanding the chemical interaction of materials with sodium.
