Boli Zhang was born in Hebei province, China, in 1948. He received Chinese medical M.S. degree and D.S. honorary degree from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and HK Baptist University in 1982 and 2010, respectively. He serves as a Medical Specialist of traditional Chinese medicine and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He also serves as the president of Tianjin University of traditional Chinese medicine, Doctoral Supervisor and Vice Chairman of Chinese Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western medicine, Vice Chairman of the Medical Branch of the Traditional Chinese Medical Association, and the Director of the Key Laboratory for Prescription of the Ministry of Education. He serves as a Vice Chairman of Medicine Branch of China's Higher Education Committee and Chairman of the World Federation of Medical Education Steering Committee. In addition, he serves as the Associate Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board Member of more than 20 national journals, such as Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine and China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica. Professor Zhang successively held two “973” project items: Basic Research of Key Problem in Prescription Science and Basic Research of Prescription Compatibility, established the new pattern and optimum designing of modern Chinese materia medica with constituents compatibility, and achieved the international advanced level. He has also held and is holding the national “863” projects and National Key Technologies R&D Programs. Professor Zhang and his team have won the Prize for the National Development of Science and Technology with four items, the Prize for National Technology Invention with one, and the Prize for the Province-Graded Development of Science and Technology with twenty. He has published more than 120 papers, with 16 patents authorized, and cultivated over one hundred Ph.D. and M.S. degrees, three of which won the honor of 2002, 2004, and 2009 “National Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Papers”, respectively.
