Qingsong Xu received his B.S. degree in mechatronics engineering (with honors) from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 2002 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electromechanical engineering from the University of Macau, Macao, China, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor of electromechanical engineering at the University of Macau and the Director of Laboratory for Smart and Micro/Nano Systems. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, Switzerland, and the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. His research interests involve MEMS/NEMS, micro- or nanomanipulation/assembly, advanced and intelligent control, computational intelligence, prognosis and diagnosis, structural health monitoring, sensors and actuators, smart materials and structures, robotics, and automation. Dr. Xu is the holder of two patents and has published over 100 papers in journals, conferences, and book chapters. He is a Member of IEEE and ASME. He currently serves on the editorial boards and as a Guest Editor of six international journals.
