Aron Simis has a BSc from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil) and an MSc and a PhD from Queens's University at Kingston (Ont., Canada), under P. Ribenboim. He was Senior Researcher in IMPA (Rio, Brazil) during 1972-1981 and thereafter Professor in a couple of Federal Institutions in Brazil. He is now Full Professor at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow (1976) and a Fulbright Senior Visitor Fellow (2008). He has also been visiting researcher at the Max-Planck-Instiut and visiting scholar through the Japan Society for Promotion of Science. Other honorary titles include membership at the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries (TWAS). He has been awarded the Brazilian Government Medal in the class of Scientific Merit (2002) and in the class of Grã-Cruz (2006). His other dealings include serving in several committees of TWAS and throughout national commissions for the mathematical sciences. His mathematical output includes collaboration with about two dozens of international experts. He has been recipient of a CNPq (Brazilian Research Council) grant permanently renewed since 1982 and advisor for ten PhD students.
