Omer Topcu was born in 1970. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Çukurova University, Adana, Turkey. He finished his studies in the Department of General and Peripheral Vascular Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Ankara University, Turkey, in 2001. In 2007, Topcu served as an Associate Professor at the Department of General Surgery, Cumhuriyet University, Sivas, Turkey. His areas of expertise include gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgeries. One of his trials titled “Effect of Sphincter-Sacrificing Surgery for Rectal Carcinoma on Quality of Life in Muslim Patients” was read at the meeting of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, San Diego, California, as an international scholarship winner in June 2–7, 2001.
