Florin Gorunescu earned the M.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Craiova (1976) and received his Ph.D. degree in statistics from the University at Bucharest in 1979. He has been working at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Craiova (1980-1997) and at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova (since 1997). Presently, he serves as a Full Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova (since 2001), and as a Full Associated Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Craiova, teaching Data Mining, Master courses (since 2005). He wrote 7 books in international and national publishing houses and more than 110 papers in international/national journals. He serves as an Associate Editor at Case Studies in Business, Industry and Government Statistics (CSBIGS), as a Member in 6 international editorial committees, and as a Member of more than 30 scientific committees at international conferences, of which 6 conferences are indexed by IEEE/ISI. His area of interest are data mining, machine learning, statistics, modeling and simulation, and artificial intelligence.
