Yen-Wei Chen received the B.E. degree in 1985 from Kobe University, Kobe, Japan, the M.E. degree in 1987, and the D.E. degree in 1990, both from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan. He was a Research Fellow at the Institute of Laser Technology, Osaka, from 1991 to 1994. From October 1994 to March 2004, he was an Associate Professor and a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan. He is currently a Professor at the college of Information Science and Engineering, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan. He was a Visiting Professor at the Oxford University, Oxford, UK in 2003 and a Visiting Professor with Pennsylvania State University, Pa, USA in 2010. He is an Associate Editor of International Journal of Image and Graphics (IJIG) and an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Engineering Systems and the International Journal of Information. His research interests include intelligent signal and image processing, pattern recognition, and medical image analysis. He has published more than 200 research papers in these fields.
